Catphan 500 CT Phantom
The Catphan 500 is a five-generation CT phantom for complete characterization of axial and spiral CT scanner performance. It is built from four modules within a 20 cm housing, covering slice geometry, sensitometry, high-resolution, low-contrast sensitivity, and spatial uniformity testing. Its 23 degree wire ramps allow precise slice thickness measurement, and a universal mount with a level supports fast, consistent daily QA on any scanner.
Key Features:
- Four modules in a compact 20 cm housing: CTP401, CTP528, CTP515, and CTP486
- Opposed 23 degree wire ramps for precise slice thickness measurement
- High-resolution gauge up to 21 line pairs per cm
- Low-contrast targets for supra-slice and subslice sensitivity
- Solid uniformity module for noise and spatial uniformity testing
- Teflon pin for phantom position verification across multiple phantoms
- Universal mount with built-in level for fast, repeatable positioning
- Table-supported design that eliminates table artifacts
- Smári cloud-based analysis included for automated evaluation
Test Capabilities:
- Slice geometry, slice width, and sensitivity profile
- Sensitometry and CT number linearity
- Pixel (matrix) size and circular symmetry
- High resolution and point spread function
- Modulation transfer function (MTF) in x, y, and z axes
- Low-contrast sensitivity
- Spatial uniformity and noise (precision)
- Phantom position verification and patient alignment system check
- Scan incrementation
Applications:
- Daily and periodic CT quality assurance programs
- Acceptance testing and commissioning of axial and spiral CT scanners
- Routine performance monitoring in radiotherapy simulation and diagnostic CT
- Comparison of scanner performance across multiple systems
- Patient alignment and table incrementation verification
