RMIs are a category of instruments used to detect, measure, and track ionizing radiation, whether in the surrounding environment, on a person, or on a surface. They range from handheld survey meters to fixed area monitors to personal dosimeters worn by staff, and together they form the core safety toolkit for any facility that works with radioactive material or radiation generating equipment.
RMIs are used wherever ionizing radiation is generated, stored, or handled. In hospitals, they protect staff and patients in radiotherapy bunkers, nuclear medicine hotlabs, and brachytherapy suites. In cyclotron and PET facilities, they monitor radiopharmaceutical handling areas. In industrial settings, they support radiography inspection, power plant safety, and material testing. They are also used at border checkpoints and ports for detecting radioactive material in transit. In every case, the underlying purpose is the same, to confirm that radiation levels in occupied or public areas stay within safe limits and to give an early warning before exposure becomes a risk.
In India, the AERB requires RMIs to be in place and periodically calibrated as part of radiation safety compliance for any facility handling radioisotopes or radiation generating equipment. Properly functioning RMIs are what allow a facility to demonstrate, with evidence, that personnel and public exposure limits are being respected.
Yes. Meditronix supplies a full range of RMIs in India, including our own indigenously developed Meditronix Gamma Area Monitor, alongside a wide range of imported instruments through our distributor partnerships.
Yes. Meditronix Corporation is the official Indian distributor for Ludlum Measurements, a US based manufacturer with decades of experience in radiation detection technology. Through this partnership we supply Ludlum pocket dosimeters, survey meters, area monitors, contamination monitors, hand and foot monitors, portal monitors, neutron survey meters, personal radiation monitors, and pressurized ion chamber survey meters.
More details on Ludlum's full product range are available at their official website, www.ludlums.com.
RMI selection depends on factors like the isotopes in use, the layout of your facility, whether you need fixed monitoring or portable spot checks, and your specific regulatory requirements. Meditronix's team can assess your site's needs and help you decide on the right combination of instruments, whether that is our in house Gamma Area Monitor, a Ludlum survey meter, or a more specialized contamination monitor.
Yes. RMIs require periodic calibration to remain compliant, and this can be arranged through Radimage Healthcare India Pvt. Ltd., an AERB Recognised and NABL accredited calibration lab, either directly or coordinated through Meditronix.
